Iran to Launch Orbital Transfer Block for Satellite Deployment
WANA (August 14) – The Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Isa Zarepour, announced in today’s cabinet meeting that Iran is set to soon launch its first “Saman” orbital transfer block, following successful suborbital tests. This advanced system is capable of moving lightweight satellites from a 300-kilometer orbit to a 5,000-kilometer orbit.
Zarepour highlighted that the experimental launch of the Saman orbital transfer block, conducted on October 4, 2022, was successful. Developed by the Iranian Space Research Institute in collaboration with the Aerospace Industries Organization of the Ministry of Defense, this orbital transfer block is designed for repositioning satellites across various Earth orbits.
During the suborbital test, the engineering subsystems of the Saman block were evaluated under space-like conditions, confirming its functionality at high altitudes. The comprehensive data collection from this test demonstrated the block’s operational capabilities.
The design and construction of the Saman orbital transfer block, aimed at increasing satellite orbital altitudes, involved the use of advanced technologies that are exclusive to only a few countries.
With this launch, a significant milestone in the block’s development has been completed, paving the way for its future operational use in Iran’s space missions.
