Qatar and Iran Discuss Gaza Amid Ceasefire Talks
WANA (August 16) – On Thursday night, Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the Qatari Foreign Minister held a phone conversation with Ali Bagheri, the acting head of Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to discuss the situation in Gaza and ongoing mediation efforts.
In a statement, the Qatari Foreign Ministry said that during the call, the two officials reviewed bilateral relations and cooperation between their countries, exploring ways to strengthen and develop these ties.
They also discussed the latest developments in the Gaza Strip and the occupied Palestinian territories, as well as the progress of joint mediation efforts aimed at ending the war against Gaza.
The conversation also touched on the ongoing tensions in the Middle East, with both parties emphasizing the importance of calm and de-escalation in the region.
Doha, the capital of Qatar, hosted a quadrilateral meeting on Thursday with representatives from the United States, Israel, Egypt, and Qatar, aiming to continue talks towards achieving a ceasefire in Gaza.
Hamas announced that it did not send a representative to the meeting, stating that its focus remains on reviewing President Biden’s proposal.
