WANA (Aug 19) — In a press briefing today, August 19, 2024, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kanaani addressed reporters’ questions and addressed many important topics. Kanaani extended condolences to the Iranian people and Muslims worldwide on the occasion of Arbaeen and praised Iran and Iraq’s collaborative efforts in ensuring the security and tranquillity of the Arbaeen ceremonies.

 

Kanaani announced the initiation of legal proceedings regarding the 1953 coup d’état. He revealed that 400,000 Iranians have filed a complaint against the United States and the United Kingdom, aiming to seek justice for the Iranian people.

 

He emphasized the urgent need for a ceasefire in Gaza and strongly condemned the ongoing actions of the Israeli regime. He supported sincere efforts towards a ceasefire but criticized the role of the United States and its support for Israel.

 

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson announced that Iran will not be involved in the Gaza ceasefire negotiations. Kanaani emphasized that the Palestinians and Hamas should decide the issue of Palestine. He also affirmed Iran’s support for the Palestinian people while continuing consultations with allies.

 

The spokesperson highlighted the failures of the UN Security Council and the international community in addressing Israeli aggression and U.S. violations of national sovereignty. He reiterated Iran’s support for any effective efforts toward establishing peace.

 

In response to aggressors, Iran asserts its right to respond under international law and will act decisively. The country has demonstrated its strength and commitment to national security. He mentioned that any adventurous actions, especially by Israel, must be seriously addressed by all parties.

 

The Security Council and peace-promoting nations need to take responsibility. The world faces entities that disregard international laws. Iran has consistently upheld international peace and security over the past 45 years, emphasizing that global security is a universal responsibility, he stated.

 

Kanaani reported progress in negotiations with Egypt and Bahrain to improve bilateral relations. He stressed the importance of continuing dialogue to overcome obstacles and enhance cooperation. He also supported the ongoing normalization process between Syria and Turkey and underscored the need to resolve issues between the two nations.

 

He discussed advancements in the comprehensive cooperation agreement between Iran and Russia and noted President Putin’s invitation to Iranian official Massoud Pezeshkian to attend the BRICS summit.
