WANA (Aug 21) – Today, following the total vote of confidence granted by the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran to the ministers of the 14th government, Hossein Mousavian, Iran’s former ambassador to Germany, analyzed the success of President Pezeshkian’s proposed cabinet in securing parliamentary approval in a note, describing it as a turning point in Iran’s domestic politics.

He stated that all of President Pezeshkian’s proposed ministers successfully gained the parliament’s vote of confidence. This is the first time since the late Hashemi Rafsanjani’s administration that the parliament fully endorsed a cabinet presented under the banner of “national unity,” comprising reformists, conservatives, and moderates.

Mousavian noted that despite the majority of the parliament being controlled by conservatives, all cabinet ministers were able to secure positive votes from the representatives. He also highlighted the significant role of Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the Speaker of the Parliament, in supporting President Pezeshkian’s government and spoke of his practical cooperation in forming the cabinet.

In his speech to the parliament, the president emphasized that his proposed cabinet list had received the approval of the Supreme Leader, the IRGC Intelligence Organization, the Ministry of Intelligence, and other relevant bodies. Mousavian regarded this as a new and auspicious phenomenon in Iran’s domestic politics, asserting that resolving the country’s fundamental issues requires significant decisions that can only be achieved through internal consensus and national unity.

He also described Pezeshkian as a moderate, reform-minded conservative scholar who has chosen a new model for solving the country’s problems and advancing its progress, a model based on the two principles of “national unity and alignment with the Supreme Leader.”

According to Mousavian, today’s prudent decision by Iran’s conservative parliament demonstrated that in order to solve the country’s problems, it is necessary to act beyond political factionalism. He viewed this path as a prerequisite and a significant step toward new developments in Iran’s domestic affairs and foreign relations.

However, Mousavian stated that the sufficient condition for the success of Pezeshkian’s government would be the persistence of this unity, courage in making significant decisions to reform governance, resolving economic and livelihood issues, and improving foreign relations. He concluded by emphasizing that Pezeshkian’s government represents an opportunity for Iran.
