WANA (Sep 01) – The Iranian Army Ground Forces have officially integrated an upgraded M60 tank into their arsenal, following extensive modernization at the Zarharan Production, Optimization, and Renovation Center.

 

The upgraded M60 tank is now equipped with advanced armor protection and enhanced combat capabilities, bringing it on par with the latest military tanks globally.

 

The modernization includes key upgrades such as an advanced fire control system, new coaxial and commander’s machine guns, and a dual-axis stabilized platform for more precise targeting.

 

Additional enhancements feature a new command turret, reactive armor, track shields, a laser detection system, infrared jamming capabilities, and smoke grenade launchers.

 

The tank is also fitted with an intelligent fire detection and suppression system, multiple cameras providing 360-degree visibility, and improved communication systems.

 

Moreover, the upgrades include a more reliable starter and electrical system, an updated driver’s dashboard, a gun barrel cover, and a heating system, significantly boosting the tank’s operational effectiveness in both day and night conditions.

 

The ceremony was attended by Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi, Commander-in-Chief of the Army, Brigadier General Kiomars Heidari, Commander of the Army Ground Forces, and several other military commanders.

 

Brigadier General Heidari noted that all M60 tanks in the Army’s fleet are scheduled to receive similar upgrades, further strengthening the Army’s armored capabilities.
