WANA (Sep 08) – In the final matches of the first five weight categories at the Junior World Wrestling Championships held in Pontevedra, Spain, Iranian wrestler Ali Khorramdel secured a gold medal, while Ali Karmpour and Mehdi Yousefi earned bronze medals. The junior world wrestling championships for the first five weight categories occurred on September 6-7, 2024.

 

In the 65 kg weight class, Ali Khorramdel, after a bye in the first round, defeated Abdullah Toprak of Turkey 12-11 in the second round, advancing to the quarterfinals. There, he won 9-6 against Aykhan Abdulazad of Azerbaijan, moving to the semifinals.

 

Khorramdel continued his success with a 6-4 victory over Adam Arkheyev of Russia in the semifinals and eventually clinched the gold medal by defeating Makoto Hosokawa of Japan 10-2 in the final.

 

In the 70 kg category, Ali Karmpour defeated Alexander Gaidarli of Moldova 15-4 in the first round and Georgios Ioakimidis of Greece 12-2 in the second round, reaching the quarterfinals.

 

He then won 10-0 against Bohdan Olynick of Ukraine to advance to the semifinals but lost 13-2 to Ryoji Yamashita of Japan. Kermpour finished with a bronze medal after defeating Goga Otinashvili of Georgia 9-4 in the bronze medal match.

 

In the 79 kg weight class, Mehdi Yousefi lost 10-0 to Alp Arslan Bengychev of Turkmenistan in the first round but moved to the repechage round due to Bengychev’s advancement to the final.

 

Yousefi then won 10-0 against Alexander Mamrosh of Ukraine and 11-0 against Dmitry Lukashchuk of Belarus, securing a place in the bronze medal match. He won 13-2 against Amit of India to claim the bronze medal.
