WANA (Sep 10) – The three European countries—Britain, France, and Germany, known as the European Troika—have imposed new sanctions on Iran, citing allegations of Tehran sending ballistic missiles to Russia.

In a joint statement, published on the German Foreign Ministry’s website, the Troika condemned Iran’s missile exports to Russia, calling it increased military support for Russia’s aggressive war against Ukraine. They claimed this could lead to Iranian missiles reaching Europe and worsening the suffering of the Ukrainian people.

The European nations described the alleged military cooperation between Iran and Russia as a direct threat to Europe’s security and imposed new sanctions.

The statement mentioned taking immediate action to suspend bilateral air services agreements with Iran. They also plan to sanction individuals and entities connected to Iran’s missile program and those involved in transferring weapons to Russia, including targeting Iran Air with sanctions.

The statement concluded by urging Iran to immediately halt all support for Russia’s war in Ukraine and stop its development and transfer of ballistic missiles.

Both Iranian and Russian officials have repeatedly denied these military cooperation claims, calling them baseless.

Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, in a meeting with his British counterpart David Lammy, announced that the U.S. would impose new sanctions on Iran for supporting Russia in its war against Ukraine, including ballistic missile shipments. In a press conference in London, Blinken also stated that Iran Air would be sanctioned today.
