WANA (Sep 11) – Masoud Pezeshkian, the President of Iran, arrived in Baghdad for a three-day official visit. This marks his first foreign trip since taking office as President. Upon his arrival, he was welcomed by the Prime Minister of Iraq.

 

After the official welcoming ceremony, Pezeshkian proceeded to the Presidential Palace to meet with Abdul Latif Rashid, the President of Iraq.

 

Following this, the Iranian President will meet with Prime Minister Sudani at the Prime Minister’s Palace, and a joint meeting between high-ranking delegations from both countries will take place.

 

During this visit, Pezeshkian will hold official meetings with Iraq’s Prime Minister, President, heads of Parliament and judiciary, and will sign joint cooperation agreements. He will also meet with Iranian expatriates and business leaders residing in Iraq.

 

After his official engagements in Baghdad, Pezeshkian will travel to Najaf and Karbala to visit the holy shrines of Imam Ali and Imam Hussein (peace be upon them).

 

Additionally, at the invitation of officials from the Kurdistan Region, the President will travel to Erbil and Sulaymaniyah in northern Iraq, and will also meet with local officials, cultural and academic elites, and tribal leaders in the city of Basra in southern Iraq.

 

Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister, emphasized that the first visit is being made to a country that shares the closest relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran. He added that during this trip, 15 memorandums of understanding will be signed between the two countries.
