WANA (Sep 24) – In her first press conference, Iranian government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani addressed various domestic and foreign issues.

 

Regarding Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian’s trip to New York, she stated that the President would convey a message of sustainable and just peace to the Iranian people. In light of the serious threats to regional security posed by crises and violence in Gaza and Lebanon, this trip represents an opportunity for the President to emphasize the necessity of cooperation and solidarity among Muslim nations while amplifying the voices of the Iranian people against warmongering and excessive demands.

 

Mohajerani also expressed deep sorrow over the Tabas mine tragedy, offering condolences to the victims’ families and the labour community. She emphasized the urgent need to reform workplace safety regulations and announced the government’s commitment to improving conditions. A specialized committee will evaluate mining safety standards and address ineffective practices.

 

Details on Iran’s Collaboration with FATF

Mohajerani provided insights into Iran’s relationship with the Financial Action Task Force (FATF). She mentioned that the organization comprises four treaties, with Iran cooperating on two. She noted that discussions regarding the remaining two treaties, the Palermo and CFT agreements, are underway at the Expediency Discernment Council.

 

Bilateral Actions Needed for Sanction Relief

In response to questions about the 14th government’s plans to alleviate sanctions, she emphasized that the relief process requires mutual action. Mohajerani remarked that the Supreme Leader has long stated the need for prompt action if sanctions can be lifted. She added that the Foreign Minister is initiating dialogues, underscoring the importance of preserving national dignity in this process.

 

Government Plans for Expanding Nuclear Power and Clean Energy

Discussing the government’s initiatives to increase nuclear energy usage, Mohajerani noted that under Iran’s 7th Development Plan, the government aims to boost nuclear power capacity from 1,000 to 3,000 megawatts. She also mentioned plans to diversify the country’s energy portfolio to enhance the efficiency of clean energy sources.

 

Pezeshkian’s Upcoming Trip to the BRICS Summit

In closing, Mohajerani announced that President Pezeshkian will travel to Russia in early November to attend the BRICS summit and meet with the Russian President. She also revealed that a strategic partnership document between the two countries is nearing finalization.
