WANA (Sep 24) – In a recent meeting with Charles Michel, President of the European Council, Masoud Pezeshkian, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, underscored the importance of dialogue and interaction as effective means to reduce tensions and misunderstandings.

He stated, “Distance and lack of interaction create the grounds for misunderstandings and exacerbate conflicts.” Pezeshkian affirmed that the Iranian government seeks to expand understanding and cooperation at both domestic and international levels, adding, “Overcoming the barriers of thought takes time, but dialogue and understanding are the only paths to a common language and perspective.”

Pezeshkian expressed concern over the actions of the Israeli regime, particularly referencing efforts to provoke conflict through the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh. He also highlighted the recent Al-Aqsa Storm operation on October 7 and the 70 years of occupation and crimes against the Palestinian people, urging the global community not to remain silent in the face of these atrocities.

He emphasized that Iran has never supplied ballistic missiles to Russia and is committed to peace and stability in the region. Pezeshkian reiterated that the Islamic Republic has never pursued nuclear weapons and is ready to negotiate on nuclear issues.

Charles Michel characterized Pezeshkian’s election as an opportunity to revitalize discussions with the European Union, stressing the importance of serious dialogues on various issues, including Palestine and the nuclear agreement. He expressed hope that interactions between the two sides would continue and lead to common solutions.

However, following the meeting, Michel accused Tehran of regional influence and involvement in the Ukraine war on his social media account. He noted, “During my meeting with Masoud Pezeshkian at the UN General Assembly, I reiterated the EU’s concerns regarding arms shipments to Russia, regional instability through proxy forces, the detention of EU citizens, the nuclear program, and human rights conditions. I also emphasized the importance of engagement and dialogue to avoid escalating tensions.”
