WANA (Sep 30) – The President of Iran described the agreement to transform Iran into a regional transit and gas hub as an excellent example of joint cooperation between Iran and Russia, aimed at securing the interests of both nations, promoting sustainable development, fostering regional integration, and achieving an economic leap in the region. He stated, “We believe that if major joint projects between Iran and Russia are implemented, they will create significant capacities for countering unjust sanctions on both countries.”

During a meeting with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, Masoud Pezeshkian highlighted the exchange of diplomatic delegations between Iran and Russia as a means to enhance interactions and relations, as well as strengthen cooperation to accelerate the implementation of agreements. He added, “We believe that if major joint projects between Iran and Russia are executed, they will create considerable capacities for resisting oppressive sanctions against both countries.”

The Iranian President further emphasized that the agreement to turn Iran into a regional transit and gas hub is a prime example of joint collaboration between Iran and Russia, aimed at securing mutual interests and promoting sustainable development, integration, and economic growth in the region. He stressed the need for high-level officials on both sides to prioritize the implementation of these projects.

Pezeshkian also underscored that regional cooperation through international organizations like BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization strengthens the power of independent countries, including Iran, Russia, and China, to confront U.S. unilateralism. He added, “The escalating crimes and provocations by the Zionist regime, supported directly by the U.S. and aimed at paving the way for increased American presence in the region, represent a shared threat to the interests of regional countries and nations, necessitating greater collaboration to counter such conspiracies.”

Activating the significant capacities of both countries to serve mutual interests is essential

In the meeting, the Russian Prime Minister expressed satisfaction with meeting the Iranian President and conveyed the greetings of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Dr. Pezeshkian. He emphasized his country’s interest in strengthening and expanding interactions and exchanges with the Islamic Republic of Iran, particularly in the fields of energy, industry, transportation, agriculture, healthcare, and cultural affairs. He added, “Despite the very good increase in trade exchanges in recent months, there are still large capacities in both countries that can be activated to serve mutual interests.”

Mikhail Mishustin also highlighted the need to expand cooperation between Iran and Russia to help realize a new global order that benefits all nations. Addressing the Iranian President, he said, “We look forward to your visit to Russia to participate in the BRICS summit and to sign a comprehensive strategic agreement between our two countries.”

He expressed concern over the escalation of tensions in the region, with U.S. backing, stating, “The U.S. is seeking to secure its own interests by supporting increased tensions and conflicts in various parts of the world, and independent countries in the region, including Iran and Russia, must accelerate their cooperation to counter such actions.”
