Iranian Women: The Silent Heroes of Global Solidarity
WANA (Oct 09) – A wave of public solidarity has emerged in Iran, reminiscent of the days of the Iran-Iraq war for those familiar with the country’s history. Back then, the people, especially women, supported the war effort by donating gold, jewelry, medicine, money, food, and whatever they had.
Today, in one of the largest grassroots campaigns, Iranian women are once again playing a vital role in helping oppressed nations such as Lebanon, Gaza, and Yemen. This movement, initiated in response to a call by the Supreme Leader of Iran, symbolizes the spirit of sacrifice and selflessness deeply rooted in the country’s culture.

One of the most striking examples is the donation of a gold set by an Iranian woman, valued at 100 million tomans (around $1,670), a significant amount in Iran, equal to about five months’ salary for an average employee. This is just one of many similar instances.
Inspired by this gesture, a new wave of Iranian women have joined the campaign, donating their jewelry to support oppressed nations. This is not just a simple financial donation; it is a reflection of the culture of resistance and support, responding to the Iranian leader’s recent message stating that “it is the duty of all Muslims to stand by the people of Lebanon and the proud Hezbollah with whatever means they have.”

However, this campaign has gone beyond the donation of gold. Many individuals, rather than merely giving away their assets, have started businesses whose profits are dedicated to the resistance front. These efforts mirror the collective and grassroots endeavors of the Iran-Iraq war, where women would send their homemade goods to support the warfront.
In a short time, over 40 billion tomans (around $700,000) in cash has been collected by the Iranian public and sent along with shipments of medicine and food to Gaza, Yemen, and Lebanon. This level of financial and moral support shows how, even amidst economic challenges at home, the people of Iran remain committed to standing in solidarity with oppressed nations.

One of the most significant aspects of this campaign is the voluntary participation of over 7,000 aid worker`s and medical personnel who have volunteered for deployment to war-torn areas. These individuals are part of a significant human resource that, for years, has not only helped within the country but has also rushed to assist those in crisis-stricken areas around the world. These efforts are not merely humanitarian; they are a symbol of global solidarity, positioning Iran as a key player in supporting the oppressed worldwide.
In Gaza, one of the major challenges facing the people is the extremely harsh living conditions for women and children. Women’s rights organizations, such as the “Women’s Affairs Center” in Gaza, despite many restrictions, continue to provide essential services like psychological counseling, legal assistance, and hygiene kits for women and children.
