WANA (Oct 14) – In a meeting on October 14, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stressed the importance of enhancing bilateral cooperation with Azerbaijan during talks with Azerbaijan’s Deputy Prime Minister, Shahin Mustafayev. Highlighting the historical and cultural ties between the two nations, Pezeshkian remarked, “You are our brothers, and expanding relations between our countries holds great value for us.”

President Pezeshkian underscored Iran’s respect for Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity, stating, “We believe no country’s sovereignty should be disregarded. Additionally, we do not see foreign interference in the region as beneficial. By working together, we can ensure security and address regional issues, which remains a fundamental policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

Pezeshkian also noted that there is no need for border walls between nations to foster security and peace, emphasizing, “Islamic countries’ markets should be open to one another, allowing traders to engage freely.” He further highlighted the need to accelerate the implementation of bilateral agreements and expressed support for facilitating communication between the people of both nations.

The Iranian president also stressed the importance of establishing rail and highway connections and boosting cooperation in energy and agriculture among Islamic nations.

Pezeshkian assured Mustafayev that legal proceedings related to the recent attack on Azerbaijan’s embassy in Tehran would be pursued to their full legal conclusion.

In response, Shahin Mustafayev reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s commitment to strengthening ties with Iran in various fields, including economic, trade, energy swaps, cultural exchanges, transit, and the development of joint road and rail infrastructure, as well as security and defence.

Mustafayev added that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev is dedicated to maintaining peace and stability in the region. He stated, “We have no territorial claims against any country, nor will we accept any claims against our territorial integrity. Regional issues must be resolved through dialogue between the region’s countries.”

Mustafayev also mentioned an upcoming international conference in Baku on climate change and invited President Pezeshkian to attend.
