WANA (Oct 15) – Following the West and the United States, Australia has imposed new sanctions on five Iranian individuals allegedly linked to Tehran’s missile program. Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong stated on Tuesday that these individuals have been banned from entering Australia.

Wong reiterated Western claims, accusing Iran of supplying missile technology to its regional allies and supporting their use of missiles and other military equipment.

She also echoed allegations that Iran has provided Russia with missiles for use in the Ukraine conflict. The sanctions specifically target two directors and a senior official from Iran’s Aerospace Industries Organization, along with the directors of Shahid Bagheri and Shahid Hemmat industrial groups.

This move follows similar sanctions from the European Union and the UK, which targeted Iran in response to Tehran’s alleged missile attack on Israel and accusations of supplying missiles to Russia.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei condemned the sanctions as baseless and in violation of international law, particularly human rights.

He dismissed claims of Iran’s involvement in supplying missiles to Russia, affirming Iran’s clear and principled stance on the Ukraine conflict and its support for diplomatic solutions. Baghaei also criticized the sanctions as a distraction from Israel’s ongoing aggression in Palestine and West Asia.
