WANA (Oct 24) – Iran’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, delivered a strong response to accusations made by the U.S. representative during a Security Council meeting. The U.S. allegations were aimed at aligning with Israel and bolstering its morale in light of Tehran’s potential missile response.

During the Security Council session, Iravani criticized U.S. policies in Syria, prompting Robert Wood, the U.S. Deputy Representative to the UN, to invoke his right of reply. Wood reiterated Washington’s usual accusations against Tehran, claiming Iranian involvement in terrorist attacks via proxy forces.

In response, Ambassador Iravani utilized his right to reply, delivering a comprehensive rebuttal. He emphasized that Iran has never initiated attacks against Israel, only responding to its aggressions in accordance with international law.

“I would like to stress that we have never initiated an attack against the Israeli regime. We have only responded to their aggressions within the framework of international law,” said Iravani.

He further criticized the U.S. as the primary supporter of what he called a “brutal regime,” stating, “Without U.S. support, this regime could not continue its brutal aggressions and criminal actions against Palestinians, Lebanese, and Syrians.”

Wood, in line with Israel’s stance and Tel Aviv’s concerns over Tehran’s potential missile retaliation, accused Iran of launching hundreds of missiles at Israeli civilians since April. He claimed, “If these missiles had not been intercepted, we would have seen significant civilian casualties and severe damage to civilian infrastructure.”
