WANA (Oct 29) – In today’s press conference, Iranian government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani while praising Iran’s defense forces for their response to recent Israeli airspace violations, she condemned Israel’s aggression as a “clear violation” of Iranian sovereignty, affirming, “Iran reserves the right to defend itself and respond adequately.”

The government spokesperson expressed deep condolences to the families of Iranian personnel of both army in Israeli aggression and personnel who lost their lives in a terrorist attack in southeastern Iran, which, coinciding with the Israeli assault, resulted in the death of 10 Iranian border guards and security forces.

Addressing regional tensions, Mohajerani accused Israel of escalating conflicts to compensate for its failures against forces in Gaza and Lebanon. “Iran’s policy is to reduce tensions,” she stated, adding that “Iranian people have endured past wars and chemical attacks; we are a peace-seeking nation,” as the scars of past wars, including chemical bombings, still impact the Iranian people.

On foreign policy, Mohajerani commended Iran’s active diplomatic efforts, which she says have minimized hostile actions from adversaries. “Our diplomatic efforts have garnered global support, with European and regional nations condemning Israel’s actions,” she stated.

Iran’s Defense Budget and Economic Priorities

Mohajerani affirmed the government’s commitment to bolstering national defense, announcing a substantial 200% increase in the military budget to meet the country’s security needs.

Regarding Iran’s economic future, she discussed ongoing efforts to tackle challenges related to the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), noting that, while complex, the government is actively working to mitigate the impact on citizens. She assured that the Ministry of Economy is exploring solutions to minimize pressures on the Iranian people.

BRICS Membership and Economic Diversification

Turning to Iran’s economic strategy, Mohajerani highlighted the potential benefits of BRICS membership, noting, “BRICS represents 40% of the world’s population and has an impressive GDP. If the move away from dollar dependency is pursued correctly, it could yield great opportunities for investment and growth.” She explained that reducing reliance on the dollar strengthens BRICS economies and benefits member nations.

On the U.S. Elections and Policy Hopes

Responding to a question about the U.S. presidential election, Mohajerani said Iran holds no preference between the candidates, emphasizing, “This is for the American people to decide.”

She expressed hope that the next administration will amend its policies to respect the sovereignty of other nations and reduce regional tensions, citing past U.S. conflicts as detrimental to its own interests.

Addressing Immigration Policy

Mohajerani touched on immigration issues, emphasizing the importance of distinguishing between documented and undocumented migrants. “Legal immigrants in Iran include respected professionals, engineers, and investors,” she noted, explaining that efforts to manage unauthorized migration include border security measures and appropriate policy frameworks.

Recognition for National Wrestling Victory

Mohajerani also congratulated the national U-23 wrestling team for winning seven medals and securing the world championship. She called their success “a source of national pride,” emphasizing the importance of investing in human capital for societal growth.
