Germany to Close 3 Iranian Consulates over Jamshid Sharmahd Execution
WANA (Oct 31) – Germany’s Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock announced on Thursday her decision to close three Iranian consulates in Frankfurt, Hamburg, and Munich in response to the execution of Jamshid Sharmahd an Iranian-German dual national.
Baerbock emphasized that the consulates in these cities will be shut down, and added that Germany is working with the European Union to impose further sanctions on Iran.
In her statement, Baerbock described the execution as an “act of terror” and alleged that Iran’s decision was linked to “recent developments in the Middle East.” She claimed, “The fact that this act of terror occurred amid recent events in the Middle East shows that Iran’s dictatorial and unjust regime does not adhere to standard diplomatic logic.”
Germany Summons Iranian Diplomat Over Execution of Dual National

Baerbock further remarked, “It’s no coincidence that our diplomatic relations have now hit their lowest point.” She added that 32 Iranian consulate employees without German citizenship must leave Germany and return to Iran.
Germany also summoned Iran’s chargé d’affaires on Wednesday to express its condemnation of Sharmahd’s execution and recalled its ambassador from Tehran.
In response, Iran also summoned the German ambassador in Tehran and stated that Sharmahd had enjoyed protection and support in European and American host countries following his involvement in bombings in Iran, including in the Shiraz Hosseiniyeh, and was under the complex protection of Western intelligence services.
