Iran’s Eastern Border Closure Project to be Completed by Mid-2025
WANA (Nov 02) – In a visit to the border closure project in Mirjaveh, Iran’s Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni highlighted the ongoing efforts to secure the borders in Sistan and Baluchestan Province. Phase one of the project, spanning approximately 90 kilometers, began in late June and is projected to be completed and operational by mid-next year.
Momeni emphasized the importance of sustainable security as a foundation for progress and development. He explained that the border closure initiative is intended to prevent drug and goods smuggling and regulate the re-entry and movement of foreign nationals, significantly contributing to security in Sistan and Baluchestan.
Momeni further clarified that the border closure system combines physical barriers with advanced technology, including barbed wire fences and radar systems. “With the integration of walls and smart systems that complement each other, we achieve a comprehensive border closure,” he said.
He noted that foreign nationals often attempt re-entry after leaving the country, and this project aims to address that issue, enhancing regional security.
