WANA (Nov 04) – Mohammad Javad Larijani, head of the Institute for Research in Fundamental Sciences, discussed Iran’s nuclear policy, stating: “Our national policy is to advance nuclear technology and nuclear knowledge exclusively for peaceful purposes, without militarization at any stage. Our national capabilities are strong enough to serve as a deterrent on their own, so we have not felt the need to pursue nuclear weapons.”

Referring to global nuclear threats, Larijani said, “The world is full of nuclear threats; Russia, the United States, and NATO exchange nuclear threats on a daily basis. Such threats can even be seen in the rhetoric of Zionist leaders. Existential wars, like those viewed as wars for survival, are often used as pretexts for employing nuclear weapons.”

Iran’s Short Distance to Nuclear Weapon Capability if Needed

Larijani continued, “Do we need to enter the realm of nuclear militarization for our defense? So far, our leaders have not felt this necessity. However, our scientific capabilities are very advanced, and if a need arises in the future, we would be within a short distance of achieving that goal. Nonetheless, as a scientifically and technologically capable nation, Iran has chosen not to build and will not build nuclear weapons. This decision is rooted in our policies, not out of fear of external threats.”

Iran’s Response to Israel Will Be Painful and Decisive

In comments to reporters, the head of the Institute for Research in Fundamental Sciences also emphasized: “Iran’s response to Israel will be firm. The damages Israel has inflicted on Iran are not militarily significant, but the attack itself warrants a painful response. We have wise, courageous, and astute officials who will assess the situation and act at the right time.”

Iran’s Response to the Recent Aggression is Unconditional and Certain

Larijani clarified: “We are not waiting for a ceasefire proposal. Our response to this aggression against our country will be firm and inevitable. However, we support any ceasefire that meets the demands of the oppressed Palestinians, especially in Gaza and Lebanon.”
