Iran and Iraq Emphasize Shared Security and Regional Cooperation
WANA (Nov 11) – Qasim al-Araji, Iraq’s National Security Advisor, who arrived in Iran at the head of a security delegation, met with Seyed Abbas Araqchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister.
During the meeting, the Iranian Foreign Minister highlighted the strong relations between Tehran and Baghdad in all areas, emphasizing the significance of security cooperation between the two nations. He viewed the advancement of this cooperation as essential for further strengthening bilateral ties, especially in economic fields.
Araqchi stressed that the relationship between the two countries is strategic and unique, stating, “We consider Iraq’s security as Iran’s security and hope that with the full implementation of the security agreement, stable security will be established in the border regions of both countries.” He also referred to the achievements of the recent visit of President Pezeshkian to Iraq, affirming that the President of Iran is personally following up on the agreements and is committed to expanding the comprehensive relations between the two countries.
Iraq’s National Security Advisor provided an update on the progress of the security agreement between the two nations and reiterated Iraq’s determination to implement it fully.
Al-Araji added, “As two Muslim, brotherly, and neighboring countries, Iran and Iraq benefit from excellent bilateral relations in the region under the stability of border security, as demonstrated by the secure and impressive Arbaeen pilgrimage this year, during which more than 21 million pilgrims traveled in complete safety.” He assured that Iraq views Iran’s security as its own and that any anti-security actions against Iran would be confronted by both the central government and the Kurdistan Regional Government of Iraq.
The two sides also reviewed the latest developments in Gaza and Lebanon, underscoring the need for greater unity and efforts among Islamic countries to end the war crimes of Israel in Gaza and Lebanon and to provide humanitarian aid to displaced individuals as soon as possible.
