WANA (Nov 13) – Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Iran‘s Foreign Minister, responded to reports and comments made by the likely new U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations regarding the application of maximum pressure against Iran. He stated: “Attempts to impose a second version of maximum pressure will only result in a second version of maximum failure.”

Following Donald Trump’s decision to appoint Elise Stefanik as the new U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, she wrote on the social platform X: “The U.S. is ready to return to President Trump‘s maximum pressure policy against Iran. Iran has become emboldened due to the weakness of the Biden-Harris administration.”

Addressing this issue, Araghchi noted: “The first version of the ‘maximum pressure’ policy inevitably faced ‘maximum resistance,’ which ultimately led to ‘maximum failure’ for the United States.”

The Iranian Foreign Minister posed a rhetorical question, stating: “Do you need proof? Just compare the state of Iran’s peaceful nuclear program before and after the so-called ‘maximum pressure’ policy.”

He further emphasized: “Efforts to implement a ‘second version of maximum pressure’ will only lead to a ‘second version of maximum failure.’”

Araghchi concluded by saying: “A better idea would be to try ‘maximum rationality’; this would benefit everyone.”

Recently, The Wall Street Journal reported on the plans of newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump to revive the maximum pressure policy against the Islamic Republic of Iran. According to the report, Trump aims to curb Iran’s oil exports and its influence in the West Asia region by reinstating the maximum pressure campaign.
