Iran Urges UN Security Council to Act Against Israeli Violations of Sovereignty
WANA (Nov 16) – Iran’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations has called on the UN Security Council, the Secretary-General, and the President of the General Assembly to take urgent measures to halt what it described as Israel’s crimes against its national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
In a letter addressed to the UN’s leadership, Iran detailed a list of alleged violations committed by Israel, including acts of terrorism targeting Iranian citizens. The mission emphasized that these actions represent blatant breaches of international law and urged accountability for those responsible.
Previously, Iran’s UN ambassador, Amir Saeid Iravani, had raised concerns during an October 29 Security Council session about an Israeli attack allegedly carried out on October 26.
According to Iravani, Israeli fighter jets launched long-range missiles from approximately 100 kilometers outside Iran’s borders, using airspace reportedly facilitated by U.S. forces in Iraq. The missiles targeted radar systems in Iran’s Ilam, Khuzestan, and Tehran provinces, as well as military sites.
Iran’s air defense systems intercepted most of the missiles, preventing significant damage. However, the attack resulted in the deaths of four Iranian military officers and one civilian, who Iravani described as heroically defending their homeland.
Iravani condemned the incident as part of a broader pattern of Israeli aggression, accusing Israel of destabilizing the region through continuous violations, ethnic cleansing, and war crimes, particularly in Palestine and Lebanon.
He called the Israeli actions a “grave and dangerous violation of international law and the UN Charter,” specifically highlighting breaches of sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the prohibition of force. Iravani concluded by urging the international community to uphold these fundamental principles, which he said are the bedrock of global peace and stability.
