Iranian Defense Minister Met Syrian Counterpart in Damascus
WANA (Nov 17) – Brigadier General Aziz Nasirzadeh, Iran’s Minister of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics, met with Syrian Defense Minister Lieutenant General Ali Abbas on Sunday in Damascus to discuss bilateral defense and security cooperation.
General Nasirzadeh arrived in the Syrian capital on Saturday, November 16, 2024, heading a high-ranking delegation. Speaking to reporters upon his arrival, he highlighted Syria’s pivotal and strategic role in Iran’s foreign policy. He noted that the visit was made at the invitation of his Syrian counterpart.
During his stay, Nasirzadeh emphasized the strengthening and expansion of defense and security ties between the two nations, stating, “Iran and Syria have a growing relationship and support each other in critical times. Following the guidance of the Supreme Leader, we remain committed to assisting this friendly and strategic partner.”
The visit will also include meetings with senior Syrian political and defense officials, including President Bashar al-Assad, to explore ways to further deepen bilateral relations.
