WANA (Nov 17) – Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Aziz Nasirzadeh held talks on regional defense and security issues, emphasizing enhanced cooperation between the two nations to combat terrorism and dismantle its infrastructure in pursuit of regional stability and security.

 

On the same day, Nasirzadeh  met with Syrian Chief of the General Staff General Abdul Karim Mahmoud Ibrahim and Defense Minister General Ali Abbas. The discussions focused on strengthening military ties and addressing shared security challenges.

He also met with General Kifah Moulhem, Secretary of Syria’s Supreme National Security Council and both sides emphasized strengthening bilateral interactions across various fields, particularly in defense and security, with the goal of eradicating terrorism and continuing cooperation to promote peace and stability in the region.

 

The Iranian Minister of Defense also reaffirmed the Islamic Republic of Iran’s strategic support for Syria in combating terrorism and fostering regional peace and stability. He stressed Iran’s continued backing of the Resistance Front, as well as its unwavering support for the Syrian government and people.

 

Major General Kifah Moulhem also stated “The honorable stance of Ayatollah Khamenei in supporting the resistance inspires hope and strength in the hearts of the region’s people.”

Brigadier General Aziz Nasirzadeh arrived in Damascus, Syria’s capital, on Saturday, November 16, 2024, leading a high-ranking delegation. Upon arrival, he highlighted Syria’s pivotal and strategic role in Iran’s foreign policy, stating, “This visit is being made at the invitation of Syria’s Defense Minister to further our strategic partnership.”

 

Nasirzadeh underscored plans to engage in discussions with Syrian political and defense officials, particularly on defense and security cooperation, aiming to bolster these relations.

 

He also remarked on the strengthening ties between Iran and Syria, noting mutual support during critical times. “Following the directives of the Supreme Leader, we stand ready to support Syria as a close ally and strategic partner, exploring avenues for further development,” he said.
