WANA (Nov 18) – The spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, in response to UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy’s denial of genocide in Gaza, stated: “What is disgracefully unprecedented is the UK’s denial of such an obvious genocide.”

Esmaeil Baghaei, the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, wrote: “The conclusion of the Special Committee on Palestine, which identified the war imposed on Gaza as an act of genocide, echoes what has already been repeatedly stated or warned by other competent UN bodies, such as the UN Special Rapporteur on Palestinian Human Rights, the International Court of Justice, and the International Criminal Court.”

He further emphasized: “What is disgracefully unprecedented is the UK’s denial of such an obvious genocide.”

The UN Special Rapporteur on Palestinian Human Rights, in the report ‘An Anatomy of Genocide’ (March 2024), noted: “The genocide of Palestinians by Israel represents the intensified phase of a long-standing process of Palestinian erasure embedded within a colonial scheme.”

In the report ‘Genocide as Colonial Cleansing’ (October 2024), the Rapporteur highlighted: “As the world witnesses the first live-streamed colonial genocide, only justice can heal the deep infection caused by the wounds of political expediency.”

The UK Foreign Secretary’s remarks denying genocide in Gaza align with Britain’s policy of continuing to supply lethal weapons and political support to the genocidal, racist regime, effectively making the UK complicit and an accomplice to Israel’s crimes. This implicates Britain in international legal responsibility for violating its obligations under the Genocide Convention.

This stance reflects a form of satisfaction with the genocide—something profoundly horrifying and extremely inhumane. It recalls a deeply rooted colonialist mindset, now manifesting as systematic racial discrimination against Palestinians and Islamophobia in Europe.
