WANA (Nov 21) – In a phone call with foreign ministers from several IAEA Board of Governors member states, including Brazil, South Africa, Bangladesh, Algeria, Burkina Faso, Pakistan, and France, Iran’s Foreign Minister, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, emphasized the Board’s vital role in maintaining the IAEA’s credibility and independence. He highlighted the significance of the current meeting in this context.

Araghchi reiterated Iran’s constructive approach toward the IAEA but expressed concerns over the actions of certain Western member states seeking to introduce a resolution against Iran. He called this move unjustified, warning that it could disrupt the Agency’s technical and professional duties.

In criticizing the unconstructive stance of three European countries on Iran’s peaceful nuclear program, Araghchi referenced the agreements made during the recent visit of the IAEA Director-General to Tehran. He emphasized that these European countries’ push for a resolution against Iran would only weaken and disrupt the collaborative processes between Iran and the IAEA.

Araghchi urged the members of the Board of Governors to oppose the actions of the three European countries and prevent the Board from becoming a platform for advancing the political agendas of some Western nuclear-armed states and their supporters.
