Ghalibaf: True Promise 3 Operation will Be Executed at the Right Time, Welcomes Lebanon Ceasefire
WANA (Nov 27) – Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of Iran’s Parliament, set a determined tone in his first press conference referring to the much-discussed “True Promise 3 operation,” Ghalibaf assured that the plan will be implemented “at the right time,” while welcoming the recent ceasefire in Lebanon and expressing hopes for peace in Gaza.
“The ceasefire in Lebanon is encouraging, and we look forward to seeing similar stability in Gaza,” he stated.
In response to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s recent remarks targeting Iran, Ghalibaf dismissed them as exaggerated. “Netanyahu’s focus on Iran is nothing but empty rhetoric,” he said while highlighting the failures of Israel’s strategy in the region.
Ghalibaf recounted his recent visit to Lebanon, praising the courage and strategic insight of Hezbollah and its people. “Amidst smoke and fire, I witnessed the bravery and creativity of the Lebanese people and resistance forces. Hezbollah remains strong, defying expectations,” he remarked.
Strategic Partnership with China
Highlighting Iran’s deepening ties with China, Ghalibaf described the bilateral relationship as strategic and essential. “China is a close friend and ally. We share mutual enemies, friends, and interests, forming the foundation for a strategic partnership,” he explained.
He emphasized the importance of expanding economic collaborations, particularly through initiatives like BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. However, he acknowledged that the current level of engagement falls short of its potential, calling for further development in bilateral and regional relations.
Nuclear Talks and Economic Sovereignty
On the subject of Iran’s nuclear negotiations with Western powers, Ghalibaf reiterated Iran’s demand for tangible economic benefits and genuine sanctions relief. “Our experience with the JCPOA shows that negotiations alone won’t solve our issues. Economic independence is key,” he said.
Ghalibaf criticized Western countries for their inconsistent commitments, stating, “We await practical actions from the new U.S. administration rather than empty words.”
Iran-Lebanon Ties and Resistance Support
Discussing Iran’s historical ties with Lebanon, Ghalibaf reaffirmed Tehran’s commitment to supporting the Lebanese people and the broader Resistance front. “Our cultural, social, and religious bonds with Lebanon remain strong and will continue to shape our shared future,” he noted.
Expanding Iran-Russia Collaboration
Ghalibaf also addressed Iran’s strategic relations with Russia, particularly in energy, defense, and transit. He revealed plans for a formal visit by Iran’s president to Moscow to finalize agreements that would accelerate bilateral cooperation.
Iran-Iraq Relations
Touching on Iran-Iraq relations, Ghalibaf underscored the importance of joint efforts to resolve border security and economic challenges. He confirmed ongoing judicial cooperation regarding the assassination of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani and Iraqi Commander Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis. “We are working closely to hold the perpetrators accountable. The Iraqi parliament’s decision to expel U.S. forces is a step in the right direction,” he added.
Ghalibaf announced plans for an upcoming visit to Iraq to strengthen parliamentary ties and honor the legacy of Soleimani and al-Muhandis.
