WANA (Nov 28) – Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi has attributed the recent resurgence of extremist terrorist groups in Syria to what he described as a U.S.-Israeli design aimed at destabilizing the region following the failures of the Israeli regime against the resistance forces.

In a phone conversation on Thursday with his Lebanese counterpart, Abdallah Bou Habib, Araghchi discussed the latest developments in Lebanon following the implementation of a ceasefire.

Welcoming the ceasefire agreement, Araghchi praised it as a testament to the unwavering resilience of the Lebanese people and the dedication of resistance fighters.

He also lauded the political acumen of Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri and the efforts of the Lebanese government. Reiterating Iran’s steadfast support, Araghchi emphasized the Islamic Republic’s commitment to backing Lebanon’s government, people, army, and resistance forces.

Araghchi also warned of Israel’s history of reneging on agreements, urging Lebanese authorities to remain vigilant and cautious in ensuring the stability of the truce.

Turning to developments in Syria, Araghchi condemned the reactivation of extremist groups as part of a broader strategy orchestrated by the U.S. and Israel to undermine regional security. He stressed the need for effective measures to combat the scourge of terrorism.

Lebanon’s Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib expressed gratitude for the solidarity and continuous support extended by Iran and briefed Araghchi on Lebanon’s situation post-ceasefire.

The ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel, brokered through international mediation, came into effect early Wednesday morning at 5:30 a.m. Tehran time.

Following the recently brokered ceasefire, the Syrian Army announced in a statement that it had countered movements by al-Nusra Front terrorists and their allies in the northwest of the country through ground and air operations.

According to the statement, the terrorist groups, operating under the banner of the al-Nusra Front, launched a large-scale assault in the rural areas of Aleppo and Idlib on the morning of Wednesday, November 27, 2024.

The attack, which violated the de-escalation agreement, targeted villages, towns, and military positions across a broad front. The statement further alleged that the offensive was carried out under directives from regional and international backers.
