WANA (Dec 03) – In an interview Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi revealed his plans to travel to Russia to discuss the situation in Syria. He emphasized that Iran is preparing significant efforts to stabilize Syria and create opportunities for initiating a permanent solution and stated “Iran will consider sending forces to Syria if requested by Damascus.”

 

“We are always seeking consultation and dialogue with Turkey over our differences, and the spread of terrorist groups in Syria could harm neighboring countries such as Iraq, Jordan, and Turkey even more than it affects Iran,” Araghchi stated.

 

Regarding the possibility of sending Iranian forces to Syria, Araghchi said, “If the Syrian government requests it, we will consider sending forces.” He added that Iran does not command resistance groups in Arab countries nor has organizational ties with them, but supports their cause and offers assistance when needed.

On the issue of resuming relations between Syria and Turkey, Araghchi backed Syria’s condition for the withdrawal of Turkish forces as a prerequisite for a potential meeting between President Bashar al-Assad and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, calling it “logical.”

 

Araghchi also spoke about Iran’s relationship with Saudi Arabia, noting that bilateral ties are progressing well, independent of any developments with the United States.

 

Addressing the stalled nuclear talks with Europe, Araghchi expressed skepticism, citing numerous reasons for mistrust. He confirmed that Iran currently has no plans to engage in talks with Washington, as there is no basis for such discussions at this time.

 

“We are waiting to see what policies the new U.S. administration will adopt, and then we will determine our approach,” he concluded.
