WANA (Dec 06) – The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has called on Ukraine to halt its support for terrorist groups in the West Asian region.

Mojtaba Demirchilu, Assistant to the Iranian Foreign Minister and Director-General for Eurasia Affairs at the Ministry, condemned recent reports of illicit arms trade involving U.S.-supplied weapons by certain Ukrainian officials. He also criticized Ukraine’s backing of well-documented terrorist groups in Syria, labeling these actions as a blatant violation of international obligations to prevent and combat terrorism.

Demirchilu highlighted the dangerous nature of takfiri-terrorist elements in Syria, many of whom have long been listed as terrorist groups by the United Nations Security Council. He described the use of such groups to destabilize the West Asian region as an unethical and unlawful policy contrary to all principles of international law. He further stressed, “History shows that alliances with terrorism only lead to the spread of insecurity and violence globally, eventually backfiring on their supporters.”

He also condemned the repeated, unfounded claims by Ukrainian officials regarding Iran’s alleged involvement in the Ukraine conflict. According to Demirchilu, such accusations aim to align with the genocidal policies of Israel and the United States while seeking financial and military support from the U.S. and certain European countries.

Reiterating Iran’s stance, Demirchilu emphasized, “The Islamic Republic of Iran has consistently opposed war, refrained from any involvement in this conflict, and repeatedly called on all parties to engage in dialogue to reach a diplomatic resolution to their disputes.”
