WANA (Dec 10) – The European Troika has issued a statement reacting to Iran’s increased uranium enrichment activities.

In a joint statement published on the UK government’s website, the governments of France, Germany, and the United Kingdom claimed:
“We, the governments of France, Germany, and the United Kingdom, condemn Iran’s recent actions, as reported by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), indicating that Iran is increasing its production of 60%-enriched uranium at the underground Fordow facility. This is a dangerous step in the expansion of Tehran’s nuclear program.”

The European trio further alleged: “We are also deeply concerned that Iran has increased the number of centrifuges in use and undertaken measures to install new enrichment infrastructure, which will further enhance Tehran’s enrichment capacity.”

Referring to the latest meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors in Geneva, the Troika claimed: “Last week, European countries met with Iran regarding its nuclear program and sanctions, emphasizing their commitment to dialogue and constructive behavior.”

The European nations alleged: “Iran’s recent actions have further undermined the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), increased its stockpile of highly enriched uranium, and were carried out without any credible civilian justification. This is while the IAEA has still been unable to implement necessary additional monitoring measures.”

Concluding their statement, the Troika declared: “We strongly urge Iran to reverse these steps and immediately end its escalation of nuclear tensions.”

This statement coincides with remarks by Rafael Grossi, Director General of the IAEA, who announced a phone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, emphasizing that essential discussions with Iran are ongoing.

During the latest meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors, Grossi described his meetings with senior Iranian officials as constructive and expressed hope that continued dialogue would help resolve outstanding safeguard issues.

The Islamic Republic of Iran, which fully cooperates with the IAEA under its safeguard agreements, has emphasized that the remaining safeguard issues can be resolved through a professional and unbiased approach by the Agency.
