WANA (Dec 07) – Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi emphasized the urgency of initiating political dialogue between the Syrian government and legitimate opposition groups during the Astana Process Foreign Ministers’ Meeting held in Doha on Saturday.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, which brought together the foreign ministers of Iran, Russia, and Turkey, Araghchi stressed the need for an immediate end to hostilities in Syria.

“Today, we had a very productive Astana Process session with the Turkish and Russian foreign ministers. Toward the end, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Syria also joined the meeting,” he stated.

Araghchi highlighted that the discussions centered on current issues in Syria. “The meeting underscored the importance of an immediate cessation of conflict, respect for Syria’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, and adherence to relevant UN resolutions. We also agreed on the necessity of starting political talks between the Syrian government and legitimate opposition groups,” he explained.

The senior Iranian diplomat added that consultations with the Syrian government would be initiated to advance these goals. “I will hold discussions with Damascus, and Russia will also engage in talks with Syrian officials. With continued coordination and consultation with other nations, we hope to move forward effectively,” Araghchi said.
