WANA (Dec 18) – The three European signatories of the JCPOA have once again claimed that Iran’s uranium enrichment to 60% purity lacks civilian justification.

In a statement released ahead of the UN Security Council’s periodic meeting, the European trio called on Iran to reverse its nuclear escalation. The statement noted:

“Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile has reached unprecedented levels, with no credible civilian justification. This increase enables Iran to quickly produce fissile material for multiple nuclear weapons.”

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi also remarked on Tuesday that Iran is enriching uranium to 60%, approaching weapons-grade levels of 90%.

Iran, however, has repeatedly asserted that its nuclear program is entirely peaceful, emphasizing that nuclear weapons have no place in Tehran’s defense doctrine.

The European statement further accused Iran of accelerating the installation of advanced centrifuges, describing it as “another destructive step” that undermines the nuclear agreement.

This comes as Iran, in response to Western-backed anti-Iran resolutions at the IAEA Board of Governors, has installed thousands of advanced centrifuges to expand its uranium enrichment capabilities.
