Mohajerani: Iran-Egypt Ties Key to Regional Peace and Anti-Terror Efforts
WANA (Dec 24) – The spokesperson for the Iranian government, Fatemeh Mohajerani addressed key topics related to recent developments in Iran’s foreign policy during a press conference.
Mohajerani highlighted the Iranian President’s participation in the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation summit in Egypt as an important opportunity to strengthen regional diplomacy.
She stated, “This summit provided a suitable platform for constructive dialogue between Iran and other developing Islamic countries.” She emphasized that Iran’s engagement with these nations could significantly enhance economic, political, and security cooperation.
During the session, Mohajerani also discussed the recent meeting between the Iranian President and his Egyptian counterpart. She noted, “This meeting focused on strengthening bilateral interactions, and deeper relations between the two countries could lead to a more effective role in establishing regional peace and security.”
She added, “Given their strategic positions, Iran and Egypt can play a prominent role in reducing tensions in the Middle East, resolving the Palestinian crisis, and combating extremism and terrorism.”
These comments come as Tehran and Cairo have experienced fluctuating relations over the decades, with the revival of ties potentially bringing significant positive changes to the region.
In response to a question about reopening Iran’s embassy in Syria, the spokesperson said, “Preserving Syria’s territorial integrity and forming a government based on the people’s will are of special importance to Iran.”
She also emphasized that preventing the spread of terrorism remains a top priority for Iran in the region. Referring to recent developments in Syria and reduced internal tensions, Mohajerani remarked, “Our approach in this matter is entirely diplomatic, and we are currently conducting necessary consultations to reopen the embassies of Iran and Syria.”
Iran’s collaboration with neighboring countries has always been a key part of Tehran’s strategy to address regional challenges. In the past, similar collaborations with other Islamic nations have been instrumental in managing regional crises such as the Iraq war, the Palestinian issue, and ensuring stability in the Persian Gulf.
Therefore, reestablishing diplomatic channels with countries like Egypt and Syria could significantly strengthen Iran’s position and advance shared goals.
