WANA (Jan 22) – U.S. President Donald Trump has ended the policy of providing physical protection for his former National Security Adviser, John Bolton. The protection was originally granted due to claims of “death threats from Iran.”

This security measure was first revoked towards the end of Trump’s administration, but under President Joe Biden’s administration, it was reinstated, citing threats against Bolton and several other former Trump officials from Iran. The protective measures were said to have cost millions to the U.S. government.

Bolton reacted to Trump’s decision in an interview with CNN, expressing disappointment but not surprise. “Despite my criticisms of President Biden’s national security policies, he chose to extend Secret Service protection to me again in 2021,” Bolton remarked.

He further claimed, “In 2022, the U.S. Department of Justice filed criminal charges against an Iranian official for attempting to hire a hitman to target me. The threat still exists today. The American people can judge which president made the right decision.”

However, both Iranian officials and the U.S. federal authorities have denied these allegations.

Trump himself had also been granted physical protection due to threats of assassination from Iran. In addition to Trump and Bolton, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Brian Hook, the former U.S. Special Representative for Iran, also benefited from this protection.
