WANA (Jan 29) – Iran’s Minister of Cultural Heritage and Tourism, Seyed Reza Salehi Amiri, announced a significant development in bilateral tourism relations with Tajikistan. Salehi Amiri said that a recent agreement on visa waiver and bilateral cooperation is set to bring about a considerable shift in tourism exchanges between the two countries.

Following Iran’s 13th government’s efforts to expand relations, the 14th government, under the new agreement, announced that visa-free travel would be allowed from any point in Tajikistan to any part of Iran and vice versa. This follows previous limitations where visa waivers only applied between Tehran and Dushanbe.

The new measure is expected to facilitate significant travel to increase the number of Iranian tourists visiting Tajikistan—currently 8,600—and Tajik tourists visiting Iran—currently 8,500. The target is to boost these numbers to 100,000.

Salehi Amiri expressed optimism that this agreement will lead to a transformative shift in tourism relations between Iran and Tajikistan in the near future.
