WANA (Feb 02) – Hikmet Hajiyev, Foreign Policy Advisor to the President of Azerbaijan, met with Ali-Akbar Ahmadian, Representative of the Supreme Leader and Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, on Sunday morning to discuss enhancing bilateral relations.

Ahmadian emphasized the importance of the relationship between the two countries during the meeting, stating, “We are like two brothers with Azerbaijan. Therefore, we must preserve and expand our friendship, and our efforts are focused on removing barriers to this relationship.”

Ahmadian also referred to his recent positive meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Baku, underlining that both nations’ adversaries are attempting to hinder their friendly ties. “The wise leaders of both countries must step in to control this destructive atmosphere,” he added.

The Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council further highlighted that discussions with Aliyev had resulted in several agreements, and efforts would continue to implement them fully.

Azerbaijan Sees Iran as a Brotherly Nation

Hikmet Hajiyev echoed Ahmadian’s sentiments, reaffirming Azerbaijan’s view of Iran as both a friend and a brother. He stressed that bilateral relations have been progressing steadily, especially after Ahmadian’s meeting with President Aliyev, which paved the way for several Azerbaijani officials to visit Iran.

“We are committed to further developing our relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Hajiyev said, adding that no foreign country could undermine this bond.

Hajiyev also shared on social media that the discussions in Tehran focused on political, economic, and regional security cooperation between the two countries. A particular point of emphasis was the importance of the North-South transport corridor.

Continued Diplomatic Engagement

In addition to his meeting with Ahmadian, Hajiyev also met on Saturday with Mehti Sanaei, Political Advisor to Iran’s President, where they discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and regional cooperation. The talks centered on building trust, resolving misunderstandings, expanding collaboration beyond diplomacy, and enhancing economic and trade ties.

Hajiyev’s visit to Tehran is part of a broader diplomatic exchange initiated by the Iranian Presidential Political Advisor.
