Russia’s Ambassador: Iran Is the Most Committed NPT Member
WANA (Feb 06) – Russia’s Ambassador to Iran, Alexey Dedov, stated on Thursday that Western countries are attempting to provoke Iran into taking extreme measures.
In an interview, Dedov commented on recent discussions regarding Iran’s possible withdrawal from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), saying, “I believe these remarks should be seen as a warning to Western countries, given the threats they are imposing on Iran.
The envoy emphasized that “Iran is, in fact, one of the most compliant nations with the NPT, subjected to the highest number of inspections by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). There is no evidence to suggest that Iran seeks to develop nuclear weapons.”
Dedov further stressed, “On the contrary, the West is pushing Iran toward hardline actions. However, we hope Iran will not respond to these provocations.”
Western allegations against Iran come amid remarks from Iran’s foreign minister, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, who recently wrote on his social media account:
“What is called ‘maximum pressure’ is a failed experiment. Repeating it will only lead to ‘maximum resistance’ once again. Wise individuals would choose ‘maximum rationality’ instead. Moreover, Iran has been a committed party to the NPT and other global non-proliferation agreements. It has explicitly stated that ‘under no circumstances will Iran seek, produce, or acquire nuclear weapons.’”
