WANA (Feb 09) – The Charge d’Affaires of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Afghanistan emphasized the importance of expanding ties between Tehran and Kabul across various sectors. He expressed confidence that with the determination of senior officials from both countries, the upcoming year will see greater success in enhancing bilateral relations and mutual benefits.

 

Ali Reza Bikdeli, Iran’s Chargé d’Affaires in Kabul, stated that Iran, based on its neighborhood policy, is focused on developing its relationship with Afghanistan in multiple areas.

 

On the issue of water rights between Iran and Afghanistan, Bikdeli shared that recent discussions have resolved this matter. He also recalled that during the recent visit of Iran’s Foreign Minister to Kabul, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to the treaty and pledged to address water-related issues in the Sistan and Baluchestan region in a spirit of Islamic brotherhood.

 

He further highlighted that strengthening economic ties with Afghanistan is a top priority for Iran. According to statistics, in the past nine months, Iran has conducted over $2 billion in trade and economic exchanges with Afghanistan.

 

The diplomat also noted that Iran has made significant strides in facilitating trade and cultural exchanges. He added, “With the resolve of the high-ranking officials from both countries and the improvement of Iran-Afghanistan relations within the framework of neighborhood cooperation, the upcoming year, God willing, will be a more successful one in promoting mutual interests.”

 

Additionally, Bikdeli expressed Iran’s readiness to collaborate with Afghanistan on combating the cultivation and trafficking of narcotics, an issue of mutual concern.

 

Finally, the diplomat underscored that counterterrorism and the fight against extremism remain key areas of cooperation, with both nations currently working together in these crucial efforts.
