WANA (Mar 01) – Last night, the global political stage witnessed a tense and controversial event. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, during a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump, faced a humiliating encounter. What was supposed to be a crucial agreement on mineral resources between Washington and Kyiv turned into a heated verbal clash in the Oval Office.

It all started when J.D. Vance, Trump’s vice president, questioned Zelensky about Ukraine’s military struggles and recruitment challenges. In response, Zelensky said, “In war, everyone faces problems. But you have something we don’t—an ocean. A distance that benefits you today, but one you will feel in the future.”

This remark immediately drew Trump into the conversation, shifting the argument from a back-and-forth between Zelensky and Vance to a direct confrontation with the former president himself.

Zelensky’s words struck at the heart of what critics call Trump’s fundamental miscalculation in dealing with Russia. They argue that his push to end Russia’s isolation and secure a quick ceasefire risks emboldening Putin, weakening Europe, and leaving Ukraine vulnerable to Russian domination.

Trump prefers to frame the war as a dispute between two sides, suggesting that both share responsibility for its causes and consequences. But Zelensky sought to warn him of the catastrophic consequences of this mindset. The Ukrainian leader was essentially telling Trump in the White House: “Appease Russia, and the war will come to you too.”

This provoked Trump’s harshest reaction. Raising his voice, he snapped, “Don’t tell us how we will feel. You are in no position to dictate that to us.” He then added, “Right now, you don’t have the necessary cards to win. You are gambling with millions of lives.”

In a threatening tone, Trump told Zelensky, “You are on the brink of World War III, and you should be thanking us.”

Minutes later, in an official statement, Trump declared, “The deal is off because Zelensky is not ready for peace, and the U.S. will not be fooled.”

This humiliating exchange echoed the West’s instrumental approach to dependent governments—the same pattern that Iran’s Supreme Leader had warned about two years ago.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Predicted the Mirage of Western Support

On March 1, 2023, Iran’s Supreme Leader stated: “The support of Western powers for countries and governments that are their puppets is a mirage; it is not real. All governments should be aware of this.”

Two years later, Ukraine finds itself in precisely the position he predicted—isolated, under pressure, and sacrificed at the altar of Western pragmatism.

At the outset of the war, Ukraine was portrayed as the frontline of the West’s battle against Russia. However, as the Supreme Leader had emphasized, the U.S. fueled this war not to protect Ukraine but to control Moscow and fill the coffers of its arms manufacturers.

What was the outcome? Billions of dollars in weapons flooded Ukraine, yet neither victory nor peace was achieved—only a grueling war whose main burden was borne by the Ukrainian people.

Zelensky was once the symbol of Western resistance. But today, with shifting U.S. policies, he is rapidly becoming a discarded pawn. This is a scenario that has played out time and again—from Afghanistan to the Middle East, and now, Ukraine.

History Has Proven One Thing

Iran’s Supreme Leader has repeatedly emphasized that “The survival of a government depends not on foreign support, but on its own people.” Zelensky, who tied his nation’s fate to the West, now finds even his own future uncertain.

For its allies, the U.S. is not a pillar of support but a temporary player. History has shown that wherever its interests demand, it will abandon its partners.

Yesterday, Kabul. Today, Kyiv. Who’s next?
