An Arab Country’s Envoy will Deliver Trump’s Letter
WANA (Mar 12) – Iran’s Foreign Minister, Seyed Abbas Araqchi, confirmed that a letter from U.S. President Donald Trump has been written but has not yet reached Iranian officials. The letter is expected to be delivered through an Arab country’s envoy, he told reporters on the sidelines of a cabinet meeting on Wednesday.
Addressing the recent closed-door session of the UN Security Council regarding Iran’s nuclear program, Araqchi criticized the meeting, calling it an “unprecedented and questionable move” initiated by certain countries.
“This request raises serious doubts about their goodwill. We expect the Security Council to fulfill its duty in maintaining international peace and security without being influenced by political maneuvers,” he stated.
Ongoing Nuclear Negotiations
Araqchi reiterated Iran’s commitment to negotiations, emphasizing that discussions on Iran’s peaceful nuclear program have always been conducted on equal terms.
“Despite the U.S. withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal (JCPOA), we have continued talks with the three European countries and will soon enter a new round of discussions. Simultaneously, we are engaging in talks with China and Russia, including a trilateral meeting scheduled for Friday,” he announced.
Iran’s Compliance with NPT
The foreign minister also reiterated that Iran remains a signatory to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT). “Our nuclear program is progressing dynamically within the framework of the NPT. We uphold our commitments, but we do not accept any restrictions beyond this treaty,” he emphasized.
EU’s Role in the Nuclear Talks
Commenting on the European Union’s stance on Iran, particularly within the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors, Araghchi accused European countries of failing to uphold their commitments under the JCPOA.
“After the U.S. withdrawal, they made promises they could not fulfill. Now they are under scrutiny and must be held accountable. This issue will also be addressed in our negotiations with Europe,” he stated.
“We are a member of the #NPT, and our #nuclear program operates within that framework. Our program is dynamic, growing, and advancing. We remain committed to our NPT obligations but do not impose any self-limitations beyond them.”
