WANA (Mar 14) – The trilateral meeting between Iran, China, and Russia was held on Friday under the chairmanship of the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, with the participation of the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.

 

A joint statement was issued at the conclusion of the meeting, which reads as follows:

 

1. The Beijing meeting between China, Russia, and Iran was successfully held on March 14, 2025. The meeting was chaired by Ma Zhaoxu, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, and attended by Kazem Gharibabadi, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and Sergey Alekseyevich Ryabkov, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.

 

2. China, Iran, and Russia conducted a detailed discussion on the latest developments concerning the nuclear issue and the lifting of sanctions. The three countries emphasized the need for the removal of all illegal unilateral sanctions.

 

3. The three nations reiterated that diplomatic and political engagement, along with dialogue based on the principle of mutual respect, remains the only practical and credible approach in this regard.

 

4. The three countries stressed that all relevant parties must address the root causes of the current situation and abandon the imposition of sanctions, pressure, and threats of force.

 

5. The three countries underscored the importance of UN Security Council Resolution 2231, including its timelines, and urged all relevant parties to refrain from any actions that could escalate tensions, in order to create a conducive environment for diplomatic efforts.

 

6. The three nations reaffirmed the significance of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) as the cornerstone of the international non-proliferation regime. China and Russia welcomed Iran’s reaffirmation that its nuclear program is exclusively for peaceful purposes and not for the production of nuclear weapons. They also welcomed Iran’s commitment to full compliance with its obligations under the NPT and the Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement. Additionally, they expressed support for Iran’s policy of continued cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and emphasized the need to fully respect Iran’s right, as an NPT member state, to the peaceful use of nuclear energy. The three countries also stressed the necessity for all states to refrain from any actions that could undermine the technical, impartial, and objective work of the IAEA.

 

7. Iran and Russia expressed their appreciation for China’s constructive role and its hosting of the Beijing meeting. The three nations agreed to continue their close consultations and cooperation in the future.

 

8. The three countries also exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest and agreed to maintain and strengthen their cooperation in international organizations and multilateral frameworks, including the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and BRICS.
