Tehran Bans Ads for Certain Foreign Brands in Support of Palestine
WANA (Mar 18) – The head of the Tehran City Council’s legal committee, Mehdi Eghrarian, announced that the recent ban on advertising certain foreign brands, including Coca-Cola and Nestlé, in public spaces and municipality-affiliated stores is a move to support the Palestinian people.
He added that the decision also serves as a diplomatic message to other Islamic capitals, urging solidarity with Palestine.
Speaking on Tuesday, Mehdi Eghrarian emphasized that while no products from Israel officially enter Iran through customs, some brands operate under licenses linked to parent companies or shareholders affiliated with the Israeli regime.
“These licenses are funded by citizens’ purchases, and this issue requires serious scrutiny,” Eghrarian stated. He stressed that beyond the economic aspect, the decision carries significant diplomatic weight.
Eghrarian further noted that as the “Um al-Qura” (Mother of Cities) of the Islamic world and a symbol of resistance since the Islamic Revolution, Tehran is sending a strong message to other Islamic capitals.
He expressed hope that this measure would foster greater unity among Muslim nations and reinforce support for Palestine.
During its 313th session, the Tehran City Council officially approved a resolution banning advertisements for certain foreign brands within the city’s municipal management system and on structures under the supervision of Tehran’s municipality.
