Russia: Iran is a Russian Ally; All Sides Show Restraint
WANA (Apr 04) – The Kremlin spokesman stated that while Russia is currently working to restore relations with the United States, Iran remains a partner and ally with whom Russia maintains broad and multi-dimensional ties.
Dmitry Peskov made these remarks on Friday, April 4, 2025, in response to a question regarding threats made by U.S. President Donald Trump against Iran.
The Kremlin spokesperson stressed that the Iranian nuclear issue must be resolved exclusively through political, diplomatic, and peaceful means, and that all parties should exercise utmost restraint in this matter.
On March 31, 2025, President Donald Trump continued his anti-Iran rhetoric in an interview with NBC News, claiming, “If Iran doesn’t agree, it will be bombed—bombed like never before.”
Earlier, Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister condemned Trump’s rhetoric, stating that Russia is prepared to help both the U.S. and Iran reach a reasonable agreement before it’s too late.
In an interview with International Affairs magazine, Sergey Ryabkov said, “While there is still time and the train hasn’t left the station, we must double our efforts to reach a logical agreement.” He described Trump’s threats and ultimatums as a tactic to impose his will on Iran, adding that such an approach will only further complicate the situation.
On Thursday, April 3, 2025, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova also responded to Trump’s threats, saying that foreign threats to bomb Iran’s nuclear energy infrastructure are unacceptable.
Speaking at a press briefing, Zakharova reiterated, “We have repeatedly said that military force used by Iran’s adversaries in relation to the nuclear issue is unacceptable.” She emphasized that such external threats, such as bombing nuclear energy infrastructure, would inevitably lead to large-scale, irreversible radiological and humanitarian consequences for the entire Middle East and the world—hence, they are completely unacceptable.
Zakharova affirmed that Russia is committed to achieving negotiated, lasting solutions that address Western biases and misunderstandings about Iran’s nuclear program. She stressed that any solution must also recognize Iran’s legitimate right to peaceful nuclear energy, as guaranteed under the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).
