Iran-U.S. Negotiations Take Place Indirectly in Oman
WANA (Apr 08) – In a recent press briefing, Iranian government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani expressed Iran’s belief in negotiations, stating: “We believe in dialogue; if conducted with respect, we are open to negotiations.”
She responded to a question regarding Donald Trump’s address about holding talks directly with Iran: “The coming discussions with the U.S. are indirect and taking place in Oman.”
She added: “Our focus remains on national interests, and the details will be clarified through the course of talks. No formal negotiation has yet taken place.”
“National interests are a priority for us,” Mohajerani emphasized, noting that the specifics of the talks will be determined as negotiations progress.
When asked about the possibility of direct negotiations with the U.S., Mohajerani said, “The negotiation process must begin first, and only then can the path forward be determined. For now, we are pursuing indirect talks. The foreign minister is overseeing and following the negotiation process. We will defend our legitimate rights and remain committed to our national interests.”
In response to a question about whether discussions on the format of negotiations had taken place after the exchange of letters with the U.S., Mohajerani responded with a firm “No.”
On the occasion of Iran’s National Nuclear Technology Day, the spokesperson also reiterated that Iran’s nuclear activities are peaceful and are expanding in fields like agriculture, medicine, and other sectors.
