WANA (Apr 11) – Negotiations between the Iranian delegation, led by Seyed Abbas Araghchi, and a team sent by the U.S. government will take place in Muscat, with the Omani Foreign Minister acting as a mediator for exchanging messages between the two sides.

Both the Iranian and American teams are scheduled to arrive in Muscat, the capital of Oman, on Saturday morning (April 12, 2025), and after meeting with the Omani Foreign Minister, they will begin indirect talks.

The U.S. Secretary of State stated: “Thanks to Trump’s efforts, an important meeting will be held on Saturday for the first time in a long while. This will be a direct conversation between Witkoff and a senior official from the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

Given the timing of the delegations’ arrival, the negotiations are expected to start Saturday afternoon.

As previously mentioned, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister, will lead the Iranian team, and Witkoff, the U.S. President’s special envoy to West Asia, will head the American delegation. Thus, rumors suggesting that Witkoff would not travel to Oman unless the talks were direct have not been confirmed by any source. In fact, the opposite has been affirmed.

Sources say Iran has drawn clear red lines, including a refusal to accept any threatening language from the American side, any excessive demands, or any attempt to set frameworks concerning its nuclear program or defense industry. Iran will not tolerate any breach of these red lines during negotiations.

According to these sources, Iran is always ready to build confidence in the peaceful nature of its nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of sanctions. Therefore, the ball is in the Americans’ court. If the U.S. is genuinely concerned only about nuclear weapons, the talks shouldn’t be difficult. But if they approach the negotiations dishonestly and with excessive demands, they must take international responsibility for obstructing the process.
