Iran Summons Argentina’s Chargé d’Affaires
WANA (Apr 16) – Following the Argentine prosecutor’s action against officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran—an act deemed contrary to international norms and regulations—the Argentine Chargé d’Affaires in Tehran was summoned by Eisa Kameli, Director General for the Americas at Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During the meeting, Iran’s strong protest over the matter was officially conveyed.
In the meeting, Kameli handed over an official note of protest from the Islamic Republic of Iran and clearly expressed Iran’s position, condemning the baseless accusations made by Argentina’s judiciary and officials. He emphasized that the Argentine prosecutor’s move in the AMIA case—leveling accusations against Iranian officials—is merely another deviation in the long-running judicial process related to a suspicious 1994 incident. This act, he added, only deepens the numerous unresolved questions and ambiguities surrounding a case that, due to ongoing interference by actors tied to the Israeli regime, has become a political tool to advance anti-Iranian agendas.
Kameli also highlighted that the prosecutor’s action clearly contradicts fundamental principles of international law, particularly the respect for sovereign equality and political independence of states. He described this step as a harmful precedent in international relations and stated that such actions not only strain diplomatic ties between the two countries but also constitute a wrongful act under international law, for which the Argentine government bears responsibility.
He called on the relevant authorities in Argentina to correct this misguided course and warned of the legal and political consequences of the prosecutor’s actions. Kameli stressed that the Islamic Republic of Iran reserves its legitimate right, under international law, to take appropriate measures to protect its rights and interests.
