WANA (Apr 22) – Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, has strongly rejected accusations made by representatives of the United States and Israel during the April 9 emergency session of the UN Security Council (Meeting No. 9896) concerning the situation in Syria.

In a formal letter addressed to the President of the UN Security Council, Iravani emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Iran has never pursued a policy of destabilization in Syria. “Iran has consistently supported Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” he stated.

The senior Iranian diplomat further criticized U.S. policies in the region, arguing that American interventionist and occupation strategies have been the true source of instability in Syria. “Under the pretext of counter-terrorism, the U.S. has equipped and supported terrorist groups and enabled Israel’s occupation policies,” he said.

Iravani also condemned Israel’s continued military aggression against Syrian sovereignty and urged the Security Council to take immediate and decisive action to halt these violations.

“The occupation of Syria’s Golan Heights by the Israeli regime is a blatant violation of international law and Security Council Resolution 497,” he wrote, citing the resolution’s rejection of any Israeli claims of sovereignty or administrative authority over the region.

In response to Israeli claims that Iran is supplying arms and funds to Hezbollah, Iravani firmly denied the allegations, calling them unfounded and politically motivated. He argued that such claims are merely an excuse to justify Israel’s repeated violations of Security Council Resolution 1701 and to undermine the ceasefire arrangements with Lebanon.
