Araghchi in China
WANA (Apr 23) – Iran’s Foreign Minister arrived in Beijing early Wednesday for a meeting with Chinese officials.
Seyyed Abbas Araghchi left Tehran for China last night. Upon his arrival in Beijing, he was welcomed by several officials from China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as the Iranian ambassador.
This visit is taking place within the framework of strategic engagement between the Islamic Republic of Iran and China, and in the context of high-level consultations between the two countries’ foreign ministers.
During the trip, the Iranian Foreign Minister is carrying a letter and message from Iran’s President to his Chinese counterpart, Mr. Xi Jinping.
In addition to discussions on mutual interests, the visit will also include talks on the implementation of the 25-year cooperation agreement between the two countries.
China, as a key and constructive party in Iran’s nuclear negotiations, will also engage in discussions on nuclear-related issues during this visit.
While meeting with his Chinese counterpart, Mr. Wang Yi, Iran’s Foreign Minister will review the progress of the 25-year Comprehensive Cooperation Plan — a strategic document guiding bilateral relations between Iran and China.
Upon his arrival in China, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi made the following statement:
“China and Russia are two strategic partners and close friends who have stood by us in difficult times. Naturally, we maintain constant and ongoing consultations with them across various areas. Especially now, with indirect talks with the United States underway, it is essential to fully inform our friends in China of developments and consult with them.”
“I held similar consultations in Russia last week, and today I will deliver the President’s message in China. We hope to have fruitful discussions.”
“China has played an important and constructive role in Iran’s nuclear file in the past. Without a doubt, its continued involvement is essential moving forward. We will maintain our consultations with China as a member of the UN Security Council, a member of the IAEA Board of Governors, and a long-standing partner of the Islamic Republic of Iran with experience in nuclear matters.”
