Lebanon Summons Iranian Ambassador Amani
WANA (Apr 24) – The Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced in a statement on Thursday that Mojtaba Amani, the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran, was summoned to the ministry at the official request of the Foreign Ministry.
The reason for this measure was Amani’s recent public remarks, which were perceived by Beirut as “interference in Lebanon’s internal affairs.”
The official statement from the Lebanese Foreign Ministry noted that Amani met and held talks with Hani Chemaitelly, the Secretary-General of the ministry.
During the meeting, the Iranian ambassador was reminded of what was described as “the need for full adherence to diplomatic principles as outlined in international agreements regarding respect for state sovereignty and non-interference in internal affairs.”
The Foreign Ministry did not provide further details regarding the specific content of Amani’s remarks but emphasized that the warning was issued within the framework of respect for diplomatic relations and international norms.
Without going into specifics, the statement reaffirmed Lebanon’s commitment to conduct relations based on diplomatic standards and to uphold the country’s sovereignty.
Previously, Ambassador Amani, in an interview with a Lebanese television network, clarified that he had been invited by Hani Chemaitelly, the Secretary General of Lebanon’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, but he stated that he was currently busy and a new appointment would be arranged later.
Amani had written on X: “The issue of ‘disarmament’ is a clear American conspiracy. While the United States arms the Zionist regime with the most advanced weapons and missiles, it prevents the arming and strengthening of other armies. Once countries surrender and agree to disarmament, they become vulnerable to attack and occupation, just like Iraq, Libya, and Syria.”
